My eyes are drawn to the background in this one. Which is unfortunate because you have such a pretty smile!

I believe it has something to do with color choice (which is perfect, don't change them) and the dynamic element that arises as you pan through the Z-axis of your portrait.

Does that make sense?

As your eyes move across they glitch (catch something unnatural) that causes them to refocus. If that's the effect you're going for, then you're done!

But if you're working towards something seamless, as if to blend multiple dimensions together so the viewer is forced to question which reality is real/dominant then I would suggest dividing your z-axis into 3 to 4 levels, layering them, and blend the background (4) into level 3.

Then make your way towards the surface until you reach the tip of your nose. If you do this you should be able to trace with your eyes from any edge/corner to the center without twitching/glitching. Then you can set the sharpness, contrast, etc on a global filter.

It's a pain at first, but should give you control of those areas that stand out when your filter effect responds too heavily (e.g. the area on your right (my left) cheek caught some of the diffusion and causes the viewer to raise an eyebrow).

Main areas of interest would be the ink/illustrated additions, which I feel are too bold at the moment, and the transition area from foreground to background near the ears (the top is excellent, but bottom could use some attention).

I would focus on that drip/droop in the bottom right corner and bleed (blend) up, using that as a reference for the right side.

Cheers,

Mickey

I like this design for a makeup. The different tattoos around the face give it character and it's cool how the peircings seem to fit in around the designs. I would probably go more dramatic with the mouth and make it and the teeth bigger and maybe fill in some of the tattoos with a color like red or black. The eyes are very cool, very scary looking and the black and red were good color choices. Over all it's a cool design for a kraken and it would be cool to see applied with makeup and see how you would style it in a picture.
